CLIENT: City of Cincinnati
LOCATION: Washington Park, 1222 Race St, Cincinnati, Ohio
PRODUCTS: Custom Playground Design
When it was time to revitalize one of Cincinnati's oldest parks, City planners knew the space needed something extraordinary. With the help of DWA Recreation, they delivered a remarkable experience for families (and their future families). The half-acre, 18,000 square foot, fenced-in children’s playground at Washington Park is a destination for locals and visitors across the tristate region. The playground's features are based on historic Cincinnati structures, created to symbolize the rich heritage of the Queen City. Custom features include a play castle, climbing wall, sandbox, dual slides, a canal boat in a stream, and musical instruments – all creatively integrated into a safe and imaginative play environment for children of all ages.
The play area at Washington Park is programmed with free activities for all families to enjoy. A local mom and blogger provided this feature post about the playground to help other parents discover and enjoy this family-friendly spot in the City.
Custom Playground Features Create a Truly Unique Destination
DWA Recreation utilized Landmark Design, a team of talented engineers, designers, and artists from GameTime.
Landmark's Discover-Design-Deliver approach ensures high-quality and on-point concepts that will serve generations to come. During the Discover phase of a project, the team brainstorms and prioritizes the desired project outcomes, consider historical, cultural, and educational opportunities and explore accessibility and universal design. Input from key stakeholders and community groups, including parents and children is essential and everyone is heard! Design workshops and town hall meetings are used to brainstorm ideas and hone in on a central theme.
With this information, Landmark artists create sketches and drawings to bring your dream to life and help architects and planners visualize the look and style of the project. An interactive lookbook follows with material samples, renderings, and animations that provides a close-up view of the design. Nothing is left to chance! Sometimes, the approval phase will include scale models or a visit to Landmark's design and manufacturing studio for approval of key details before construction begins. Finally, an expert team of site contractors and certified equipment installers are assembled to prepare the site, order all the components, and bring the space to life.
