A Riverfront Destination Built for Play, Gathering & Community
What was once an underutilized stretch of riverfront has been transformed into one of Miamisburg’s signature destinations. Located along the Great Miami River in the heart of downtown Miamisburg, Riverfront Park is a 7.5-acre community gathering space designed to bring people together through play, recreation, entertainment, and time outdoors.
As part of the park’s $5.5 million transformation, DWA Recreation partnered with the City of Miamisburg Parks & Recreation Department to bring several key elements of the vision to life—including a custom playground, shaded seating, bench swings overlooking the river, and a permanent amphitheater designed for concerts and community events. The result is more than a playground. It’s a destination.
Play With a View
The playground at Riverfront Park was designed to create a one-of-a-kind play experience inspired by the natural character of the riverfront. DWA worked with Miamisburg Parks & Recreation to develop a customized play environment featuring a tube slide, rope tower, and zip track. These elements give kids opportunities to climb, balance, slide, and soar while creating a play experience that feels distinctly different from a traditional playground. The playground has quickly become one of the park’s signature attractions—and Riverfront Park was later voted the #1 Playground in the Dayton Daily News Best of Dayton 2025 Poll.
Custom Seating Along the Great Miami River
The experience doesn’t stop when the playing does. DWA also provided custom bench swings positioned to overlook the Great Miami River, creating a unique place for parents, grandparents, and visitors to relax while enjoying the view. It’s the kind of detail that turns a playground project into a destination for the entire family.
A Stage for the Community
Riverfront Park was designed to be much more than a place to play. At the heart of the park is the Ginkgo Amphitheatre, which provides a permanent venue for concerts, performances, festivals, and other community events. DWA provided the covered amphitheater stage with an ICON Tapered Barrel Vault Shelter, helping create a comfortable and dependable space for performers while providing protection from sun and weather. DWA also installed Square Sail Shades to provide additional shade throughout the park. The amphitheater now serves as a centerpiece for Miamisburg’s Star City Summer Concert Series and other community gatherings.
A Transformation Worth Celebrating
Riverfront Park officially opened in May 2024, with hundreds of community members attending the grand opening celebration. The park’s transformation received significant local media attention, with the Dayton Daily News describing the project as a “complete transformation” of approximately 7.5 acres between downtown Miamisburg and the Great Miami River. And WKEF’s Eli Burgett captured the feeling of the new space simply: “The vibes are immaculate.” We couldn’t agree more.
